Adolf of Burgundy

Adolf of Burgundy ( * 1489, † 1540) was lord of Veere and Admiral of the Netherlands. He was a son of Philip of Burgundy († 1498) and Anne of Borsselen († 1518).

1498, with the death of his father, he received his father, Beveren and the County of La Roche 's heritage, but also his mother, Veere and Vlissingen, Brouwer Haven, Tournehem, Crèvecœur, Arleux, West Chapel, Duyvelandt, Rumilly, Saint- Souplet and Chocques, the castle county of Cambrai and the Vice- County Aire.

On September 15, 1509 he married Anne of glyme (* 1492, † 1541), daughter of John III. of glyme, Mr. Bergen op Zoom out of the house glymes. 1516, he was inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece. In 1517 he succeeded his great-uncle Philip of Burgundy († 1524) as Admiral of the Netherlands, when he was appointed bishop of Utrecht. He was imperial councilor and chamberlain, Admiral and Great Bailiff of Hainaut. After his death he was succeeded as both Lord of Veere, etc. as well as an admiral, his son Maximilian of Burgundy.
