Adonis Stevenson

Adonis Stevenson ( born September 22, 1977 in Port-au -Prince ) is a Canadian professional boxer of Haitian descent and current world champion of WBC light heavyweight.

Amateur career

Adonis Stevenson won 33 of 38 amateur fights. He was 2005 and 2006 Canadian champion at middleweight and was elected in these two years, Canada's Boxer of the Year.

At the 13th World Championships in 2005 in the Chinese Mianyang, he succumbed to the Cuban Emilio Correa Bayeux 20:37 on points. In the 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, he could win the silver medal, and thus was also Canada's only medal winner of the games.

Professional career

In September 2006, he earned his first professional fight; he defeated Mike this radio by first-round Ko, whereupon radio ended his boxing career. By December 2007, he won nine consecutive fights, including seven by knockout. He defeated among others, Marcus Thomas (10-1) from Barbados, the still undefeated Eduardo Calderón (3-0 ) and the American Etianne Whitaker, who already had world champions such as William Joppy and Károly Balzsay before the fists. All these three victories he achieved by whacked in the first round.

On 7 December 2007, he was in Montreal by a points win against David Whittom, Canadian champion in the super middleweight division. In his very next fight on April 5, 2008 in Montreal, he defeated Dhafir Smith by TKO in the fifth round and thus won the American Continental Championship title the WBC. This he defended nearly four months later by co in the first round against Anthony Bonsante ( 31-9 ). On 25 September 2009 he won by t.K.o. in the fifth round against Jermain Mackey ( 18-3 ), the International Master title by the WBC.

His first loss as a pro, he had finally completely surprising in April 2010 suffered against the imaginary opponent as construction Darnell Boone ( 16-15 ) in the second round by TKO when he lost. It was his first professional fight outside of Canada and his first fight under his new promoter Lou DiBella.

He then played for almost a year no more fighting and rose only 8 April 2011 again in the ring. He struck Derek Edwards ( 25-1 ) in the third round co and thereby won the North American championship of the NABA. In his next duel in September 2011 in Las Vegas, he won against Shujaa El -Amin (11-1) by TKO in the first round.

On December 10, 2011, he defeated Aaron Pryor Jr. ( 16-4 ) by TKO in round 9, thus defended his NABA title and also won the North American championship of NABO. On 18 February 2012, he won by whacked in the first round against Jesús González (27-1 ), the Intercontinental Championship title of IBF.

On April 20, 2012, he also secured by a TKO victory in the second round against Noé González Alcoba (28-1, only loss to Felix Sturm ), the silver title of the WBC. In March 2013 he defeated Darnell Boone, against whom he suffered his only defeat so far, by Ko in the sixth round.

On June 8, 2013, he won the WBC world light heavyweight by a knockout win in the first round against Chad Dawson ( 31-2 ). His first title defense, he played the end of September 2013 against Tavoris Cloud ( 24-1 ) and won by abandoning his opponent after the seventh round. On November 30, 2013, he defended his title by TKO in the sixth round against Tony Bellew (20-1 ).
