Alan Menken
Alan Menken ( born July 22, 1949 in New Rochelle, New York) is an American composer. He won eight Oscars for his work on the Disney films The Little Mermaid (1989) Beauty and the Beast (1991 ) Aladdin ( 1992) and Pocahontas (1995).
Other nominations received Menken for the musical arrangement of the films Little Shop of Horrors (1986 ), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996 ) Hercules (1997) and Enchanted ( 2007). There are also numerous nominations and awards at the Golden Globe Awards.
He is also known for his extensive musical activity. Among his latest projects here include the musical King David, which he co-wrote with lyricist Tim Rice.
Life
His childhood was spent Alan Menken in New Rochelle, New York and had already at that time considerable musical skills. So he learned during his time in high school piano and violin, but only after the college studies at New York University, he could realize his dream of becoming a professional musician, realize. When he later worked at Lehman Engel Musical Theatre, he developed a passion for arranging musical. He worked with enthusiasm the knowledge necessary to compose a musical and met his longtime companion Howard Ashman.
With his wife Janis, a former ballet dancer, and his two children, Anna and Nora Menken Alan lives in New York State.
