Geography

Geographical location

The core area of the municipality is located in Sirnitzbachtal Albeck, a tributary of the Gurktals in the Gurktaler Alps, east to southeast of the Nock Mountains. The municipality lies at an altitude 730-2404 m ( Wintertalernock ). Center of the municipality is Albeck.

History

The population of the municipality is likely to date back to the 10th century. Albeck was 1157 (as Sironitz ), the castle Albeck 1155 first mentioned. Lord of the castle of Rudolf Albeck bequeathed the castle of Gurk church because his son was bishop there. The church property is still very extended today. The castle fell into disrepair in the late 17th century, the stones were used beginning in the early 18th century for the construction of the castle Neu- Albeck, the episcopal nurses served as the official residence from now on. 1850 Care Court was closed and built the church Albeck.

Nature Reserve ( NSG) " Gurkursprung "

Together with the municipality of Reichenau Albeck divides the 1,507.1 hectares comprehensive nature reserve around the Gurkursprung and thus represents the fourth largest kärnten far NSG. This rare bird found in the tundrenartigen landscape ideal breeding grounds.

Culture and sights

Albeck is known among other things through the castle Albeck, a late baroque manor house, which until 1848 had jurisdiction over the entire upper Gurktal. In the capital Albeck there is a late Gothic church with Baroque Karner and mortuary house.
