Aleksandr Averbukh

Alexander Awerbuch (Russian Александр Валерьевич Авербух, Aleksandr Valeryevich Awerbuch, Hebrew אלכסנדר אברבוך, English transcription Aleksandr Averbukh, . Born October 1, 1974 in Irkutsk ) is an Israeli athlete of Russian origin.

Like his father, Alexander Awerbuch first decathlete - with a personal best of 8084 points ( 1997). At the European Indoor Championships in 1998 launched Awerbuch for Russia in the all around and was ranked sixth

He emigrated to Israel and was on 3 August 1999 citizens of Israel. Since he started in the pole vault. In his first race for Israel, the IAAF 1999 World Championships in Seville, he won the bronze medal (5.80 m). In 2000 he became European Indoor champion and tenth in the Olympic Games in Sydney.

He was fourth at the 2001 World Indoor Championships in Lisbon. At the World Championships in Edmonton, he won silver behind Dmitri Markov ( also ex- Russian, now starting for Australia) and at the Universiade gold.

His first outdoor title won Awerbuch at the European Championships in Munich in 2002 with 5.85 m. In 2003, he presented with 5.93 meters, his personal record ( at the same time Israeli record ), and at the 2004 Olympic Games, he finished eighth.

At the World Indoor Championships in Moscow in 2006 he was again fourth and at the European Championships in Gothenburg, he defended his title. In Osaka at the 2007 World Championships he came on the seventh rank.

Alexander Awerbuch has a competition weight of 76 kg at a height of 1.78 m.
