Moscow was commissioned by the World Association of Athletics Federations to organize the event in November 2003. The candidacy of the Russian capital sat down, surprisingly, by the application against Madrid. The World Indoor Championships were the first major sporting event in Moscow since the Summer Olympics in 1980.

635 athletes from 129 countries took part. The DLV team consisted of seven athletes and nine athletes

There was not a 200 -meter run instead of more. The reason for this was that the outcome of the race due to the tight corners was too predictable. Athletes who had to walk on the narrow inner tracks, usually had no chance to win the race.
