Kenenisa Bekele Beyecha ( Amharic ቀነኒሳ በቀለ; born June 13, 1982 in Bekoji, Oromia ) is an Ethiopian athlete who is one of the world's best long-distance runner since 2002. He is a three -time Olympic champion and former world champion over 10,000 meters and 5,000, owner of world records over 10,000 and 5,000 meters (as of December 2013) and six -time world champion in cross-country running over the long haul.

Sporting career

The Vice Junior World Champion in the 5000m in 2000, first made her as Cross Road Runner and a name. At the World Cross Country Championships in 2001 in Oostende, he won the Junior race and won Silver in the distance, 2002 in Dublin and 2003 in Avenches he won gold at both the short as well as long-haul. 2000 and 2001 he won the Montferland Run 2001 at the Giro al Sas.

At the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki Bekele triumphed over the 10,000 m in 27:08,33 min ahead of his compatriot Sileshi Sihine ( 27:08,87 ) and the Kenyan Moses Mosop Cheruiyot ( 27:08,96 ). He dedicated this victory to his deceased fiancee on 4 January 2005, the Youth World Champion 2003 at the 1500 -meter run, Alem Techale. She died at age 17 unexpectedly during a common running training, presumably of a heart attack. In the same year he set a world record in the 10,000 m. His time of 26:17,53 min (as of June 2013), which he reached on 26 August 2005 in Brussels ( Memorial Van Damme ), has not been offered to date. Bekele also holds the world record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 12:37,35 min (as of June 2013).

Also at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka Bekele won the 10,000 m gold. He won in 27:05,89 min before Sileshi Sihine. In the Cross Country World Cup 2008 in Edinburgh he wrote history. As the first athlete he won for the sixth time long-distance gold - and lost despite a shoe.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Bekele was the 10,000 m and 5,000 m double Olympic champion, each with a new Olympic record time. The 10,000 m he ran into 27:01,17 min, in 12:57,82 min 5000 meters. At the end, he returned to the street, but was only third in the Zevenheuvelenloop.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin Bekele won for the fourth consecutive gold medal in the 10,000 m. He won the championship record of 26:46,31 min. Four world titles over 10,000 m were previously only his compatriot Haile Gebrselassie succeeded. A week later, Bekele was also successful in the 5000m and won on this track his first world title. He also won the 2009 all six meetings of the IAAF Golden League jackpot, and thus the amount of 333,333.33 U.S. dollars.

After injury problems in 2010 and a half years without competition Bekele returned to the 2011 World Championships in Daegu back, but had to abandon the race over 10,000 m. This was the first 10,000 - meter track race of his professional career, he could not win. Kenenisa Bekele is 1,67 m tall and weighs 59 kg. He is the older brother of the long distance runner Tariku Bekele and comes from the same village as the 10,000 -meter Olympic champion Derartu Tulu. On November 18, 2007, he married in Addis Ababa, the 25-year old Ethiopian film actress Danawit Gebregziabher.
