Alex Bell

Alexander "Alex" Bell ( * 1882 in Cape Town, South Africa, † November 30, 1934 ) was a Scottish footballer who acted mainly as a defensive midfielder and one of the pillars when winning the first two titles in the history of English record champion Manchester United was.

Life

Born as the son of Scottish parents in South Africa Alex Bell grew up later on in the Scottish town of Ayr, where he learned to play football in youth teams of Spring Vale Ayr and Ayr Westerlea. As a young adult, he played for Ayr Parkhouse in the Scottish Amateur Football League and contributed his services are not irrelevant to the fact that his club won second place at the end of the 1902/03 season and for the following 1903/04 season in the second division was added. At the time, Bell was already in the English second division club Manchester United under contract, who had signed him during the 1902/03 season.

While Bell 1902/ 03 and 1903/ 04 only came to a total of eleven stakes in his first two second division seasons, he was instrumental in starting from 1904 /05 starting players and as such am -won the following season promotion to the first division.

In the following years, Bell was also one of the key pillars in the first successful era of the Red Devils, who once won between 1907/ 08 and 1910/11, depending twice the English league title and the FA Charity Shield and the FA Cup.

On March 16, 1912 Bell graduated against Ireland ( 4-1 ) his only international appearance for the Scottish national team.

Before the season 1913/14, Alex Bell moved to Blackburn Rovers and won in the same season another title.

After ending his playing career, Bell worked on the coaching staff of Coventry City (1921 /22) and then at Manchester City.
