Alexey Prokurorov

Alexei Alexeyevich Prokurorow (Russian Алексей Алексеевич Прокуроров; born March 25, 1964 in Mischino, Vladimir Oblast, † October 10, 2008 in Vladimir) was a Russian - Soviet cross-country skier and coach.

He celebrated his first major success at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 with victory over 30 km and the second place with the Soviet relay. Nine years later, he won the 30 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships, in addition he won between 1989 and 1997 five more medals at the Nordic World Championships. 1998 honored him with the Norwegian Ski the Holmenkollen medal. After the 2001/2002 season, he retired from competitive skating.

He worked until his death at the Russian Ski Association and was one of the head coach of the World Cup teams; last coach of the sprint specialist Natalya Konstantinovna Matwejewa. On 10 October 2008, he was on his way to a meeting of the Olympic Committee in Vladimir. He was from the car of a drunk driver who was traveling without a license, captured while crossing a street. Prokurorow died at the accident site.
