Allen Baron

Allen Baron ( * 1927 in Brooklyn ) is an American screenwriter, film and television director, producer and actor. It was mainly through the gangster film explosion of silence ( Blast of Silence ) known from the year 1961.

Life

Baron interested in youth for drawing and studied Illustration at age 19 on the New York School of Visual Arts. He worked for several years as a cartoonist and illustrator. In 1951 he moved into the film compartment, first worked as a stage designer and from 1959 also as a screenwriter and director. In 1961 he directed the largely self-financed low-budget gangster movie explosion of silence, in which he also played the lead role. The film was at that time no particular success. Only decades later, he was rediscovered as a jewel of the late film noir because of its gloomy aesthetics of film buffs. Since Barons career failed to materialize as a movie director, he began in the 1970s to work for television. He led numerous series director, such as in episodes of Bronk, Cagney & Lacey, Charlie's Angels and The Love Boat. 1986 Baron finished his work as a director and turned to painting. He now works as a painter in Beverly Hills.
