Alpens

Alpens is a Catalan municipality in the comarca of Osona the province of Barcelona on the edge of the Pyrenees.

Location

The municipality is bordered to the west by Berguedá the north by Ripoll ( Girona ) and is located around 105 km from the Catalan capital of Barcelona and 35 km from the capital of the comarca Vic Osona away. The territory of the municipality Alpens is mountainous with numerous beech and pine forests. In the northwest, the area borders to the Puigcornador ( 1228 meters) and mountainous strip of Santa Margarida de Vinyoles at ( 1208 meters).

History

Alpens is closely connected with the history of the Castell de la Guàrdia de Ripoll. The name of the village was first mentioned in historical writing from the year 1074, the year in which the feudal lords of Castell de la Guàrdia transferred the rights to the Abbot Ramon de Savarrés. Until that time, this area was subject to the jurisdiction of Ripoll.

The first recorded information on the population, the so-called Alpensins are witnessed at the end of the 15th century. 15 families in Alpens were mentioned. 1638 were already 64 houses the core of the mountain village. Until the beginning of the 17th century the city continued to grow. The pigs, sheep and cattle were important economic activities.
