Altar (Dutch band)

Altar was a Dutch Thrash and Death metal band from Hardenberg, was founded in 1988 under the name Manticore and disbanded in 2007.

History

The band was founded in 1988 under the name Manticore. In July 1992, published singer Edwin Kelder, the guitarist Marcel van Haaff and Bert Huisjes, bassist Nils Vos and drummer Marco Arends first demo God Created Satan to Blame for His Mistakes, could not be deducted from the approximately 1500 units. This was followed in 1994, the debut album Youth against Christ on Displeased Records. In 1996, Marcel Verdumen came as the new guitarist for the band to replace van Haaff. A release of the album worldwide, ie outside the Benelux countries, took place in early 2000 on Pavement Music. In the same year the compilation Until Heaven forbids appeared. End of November, the band went into the studio to record the drum tracks for the next album. By March 2001, the band continued to work with producer Peter de Koster, Berthus Westerhuis and Marcel Verdurmen on the album, which was released in April 2001 under the name of Red Harvest. On the first September 2001, it was decided initially to dissolve the band. However, Marcel Verdurmen and Richard Ludwig decided later to continue the band. After both had tried several occupations, were found with the singer Michel Coppens, bassist Andre Hemel and drummer Frank Schilperoort matching band members. There was a self-titled demo, before the group disbanded in October 2007 final.

Style

According to Martin Popoff in his book, The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 3: The Nineties the band to Provoke Music games similar to the Witchery. He described it as a blend of power, speed and thrash metal from the San Francisco Bay Area. The song was death metal- typical.
