Beneath the Remains (English for Under the remnants ) is the third studio album by Brazilian thrash metal band Sepultura. It was released in May 1989 on Roadrunner Records and was the first release of the band for this company. The album earned the band worldwide breakthrough and has sold a total of 600,000 times.

Formation

The previous album Schizophrenia has been quite successful in Brazil and was able to sell over 15,000 times. The good sales aroused the interest of Roadrunner Records, who took the band under contract. For the album, the band received a relatively small budget of $ 8,000, which was eventually covered by the same amount. The recordings took place in December 1988 in Nas Nuvens studio in Rio de Janeiro instead. This is the largest recording studio in Brazil. The band worked each from midnight to eight clock in the morning. As producers, the band undertook the American Scott Burns, who was in the early 1990s, the most sought after producers of Death and Thrash Metal scene. Since Burns was curious to Brazil, he asked for a small honorarium of $ 2,000. During the first studio day Burns was robbed ' hotel room. Thieves stole his ghetto blaster and various garments.

As a guest vocal appearances on Shaefer ( Atheist ) with the song Stronger Than Hate John Tardy ( Obituary ) and Kelly. The album cover was designed by Michael Whelan. For the song Inner Self, the band turned her first music video.

Reception
