Altona Meadows, Victoria
Altona Meadows is a suburb of Melbourne in Australia, 17 km south-west of the city center of Melbourne. Its Local Government Area is Hobsons Bay. At the 2006 census, a total population of 18,748 was determined.
Some of the Cheetham Wetlands, a nature park with paved paths lie between the lagoons in the area of Altona Meadows. The wetland attracts many migratory birds and thus makes it an attractive hiking and bird watching area.
History
The post office in Altona Meadows was opened on 15 March 1996.

The Altona Meadows Primary School is a government primary school. Approx. 350 students attend this school from preschool to grade 6. They have different multi-cultural and socio -economic backgrounds. A well-known former student, the Australian football player Daniel Giansiracusa.

Altona Meadows is part of the federal constituency Gellibrand ( which currently is held by Nicola Roxon ) and the state electoral district of Altona, as well as to the district constituency Hobsons Bay.
Like other typical Western Arbeitervorstädte of Melbourne Altona Meadows is a safe stronghold of the ALP. However, since many new houses have been built in the Howard era and the middle class has increasingly established itself there, the constituency shows a greater than the usual rash toward liberal politics, even if he agreed, on the whole solid for the ALP.
