Alvalade is a town ( Freguesia ) on the 3rd Bairro the Portuguese capital Lisbon. 8985 inhabitants live in it (as at 30 June 2011).

The municipality was created in 1959 by separation from the municipality of Campo Grande. It is bounded on the north by the Avenida dos Estados Unidos da América and on the south by the route of the ring road Linha de Cintura.

The name probably comes from the Arabic al Alvalade balade, which designates a residential and walled city. 1321 Battle of Alvalade between the Portuguese king Dionysius and his successor Alfonso IV took place here.

Patron saint of the church is the blessed Joan of Portugal.
