Lumiar [' lumiaɾ ] is a Portuguese parish ( freguesia ) on the 3rd Bairro the capital Lisbon. It is 6.4 km ² and has 40 678 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011), making it one of the largest communities in Lisbon. Neighboring municipalities are Odivelas, Campo Grande, São João de Brito, Olivais, Charneca do Lumiar, Ameixoeira and Carnide.
Due to the size of the community is (district ) is divided into the following bairros: Alta de Lisboa, Calvanas, Paço do Lumiar Telheiras and Bairro da Cruz Vermelha.
History
The Freguesia Lumiar was established on April 2, 1166 as Parish district. In the 18th century the church a few years to the neighboring municipality of Santa Maria dos Olivais belonged, but it was on July 18, 1885 a community of the city of Lisbon. Since the end of the 19th century Lumiar grew substantially due to the location as a suburb of Lisbon.

Culture
In Lumiar houses the National Museum of Theatre and the National Museum of clothes.

Health
In Lumiar there are three health facilities, the hospital of the Portuguese Air Force Força Aérea da Hospital, the Hospital de Pulido Valente and the Centro de Saúde do Lumiar
Traffic
By Lumiar an important transport connection occurs in northeast-southwest direction expressway Eixo Norte - Sul, which was completed in 2008.
To the east lies adjacent to Lumiar the Lisbon airport.
The community is connected across the Green and Yellow Line Metro Lisbon, as well as buses from Carris. In Lumiar are the metro stations:
