The Strada Statale 163 Amalfi ( Abbreviation: SS 163 ) is an Italian coastal road ( state road ) in the provinces of Salerno and Naples in Campania, which runs from Meta ( Campania ) to Vietri sul Mare. It is entirely in the Italian region of Campania and is 50 km long.

Description

The Amalfi offers views of the steep coastline and the Gulf of Salerno. About 100 m above the sea was here, partly worked into the rock, built a winding, narrow road usually. In small coves below the road, there are places like Positano or Praiano. These places can be reached only on foot, climb stairs. From Amalfi eastward, the road continues past Atrani, Minori and Maiori to Vietri sul Mare.

Above the Amalfi many hiking and mule paths. About the Sorrento peninsula also maintains a long-distance footpath.

Places to See

  • The Grotta Smeralda ( Emerald Grotto ): It is located a few kilometers west of Amalfi and is reached from the Amalfi by steps. One can take a boat trip into the interior of the cave - there is a crib under water.
  • Amalfi
  • Positano
  • Ravello

Traffic

Due to the narrow width of the road and overhanging cliffs on the Amalfi the road section between Positano and Vietri sul Mare is open daily from 6.30 am to 24 clock for caravans teams and all campers locked.

The Amalfi is great for buses (greater than 4 m, longer than 10.36 m ) completely blocked and to drive for smaller buses from 7.30 am to 24 clock only in the direction of travel from Positano to Vietri. Exceptions apply to buses and some local tourism businesses.

The road to Ravello is for large buses not officially forbidden, but for inexperienced bus driver a big challenge. The roads and many turns are very tight ( " hairpin " ) and difficult and should therefore not possible to navigate with large buses.

For cars there are no restrictions.
