Amancio Amaro

Amancio Amaro Varela, ( born October 16, 1939 in A Coruña, Galicia ) is a former Spanish footballer and coach. The Real Madrid legend was nicknamed El Brujo ( the sorcerer ) because of its breathtaking dribbling. To date, he is considered by many as the most technically gifted Spanish football player of all time.

Playing career

Amancio began his career at age 15 in his hometown, the small club Victoria, before moving to what was then Zweitdivisionär Deportivo de La Coruna in 1958. As the rise of the Galicians in the Primera División succeeded to the eyes of the big teams on the gifted technician Amancio began to judge. 1962, he joined, in spite of his ( astronomical for that time ) salary of 10 million pesetas to Real Madrid.

The club from the Spanish capital was located at that time in a restructuring phase, many of the stars of the 1950s were gone and coach Miguel Muñoz tried out young recruits and the one or other acquisition ( same time as Amancio also came players like Ignacio zoco or Lucien Muller ) to form a powerful team. National success was not long in coming, because already in his first season Amancio could conquer the Spanish league, but international scored the first title until 1966 when he and Real Madrid, after five years of drought in the European Champions' Cup, once the most important continental trophy could raise. He scored in the final against FK Partizan Belgrade to compensate for a remarkable dribbling. His career ended, the right winger in 1976, after 14 years at Real Madrid. At times, he played with real legends like Alfredo di Stefano, Ferenc Puskas and Francisco Gento and led the club as a team captain on the field. For Real Amancio scored 21 national champion cup goals (now UEFA Champions League). He is number five of the top scorers.

National

With the Spanish national team Amancio played 42 games and scored 11 goals. His international debut was the right winger on November 25, 1962 in a 3-1 win against Romania. 1964, the offensive player of coach José Villalonga was appointed to the squad for the European Football Championship on home soil. In the final round of the tournament, Amancio has developed into one of the key figures in his team. In the semifinal against Hungary, the attacker scored the 2-1 winning goal in extra time. In the final game Amanico stood over the full season on the field and was able to celebrate against the USSR, the first European Cup victory for his country after a 2-1 success. Two years later he was in the squad of the Spaniards at the World Cup in England, but could not prevent the Vorrundenaus his country. During the tournament course Amancio came in two of three group matches to use and was able to score a goal. The last time for use in the dress of the national team came Amancio on 13 February 1974 at the Frankfurt Forest Stadium against Yugoslavia.

Career as a coach and board member

Although Amancio joined, at the end of his playing career (1976 ), in the coaching staff, but left it after only one year as youth coach. It was not until 1982, under President Luis de Carlos, the Galicians will return as coach for football. He took over the second team of Real Madrid, Castilla CF, and conquered the same in his second season the champion in the Segunda División, a great success for an existing team of young amateurs. He was the legendary Quinta del Buitre, led to the first team at this time a great talent vintage consisting of players like Emilio Butragueño, Míchel, Manolo Sanchis, Rafael Martín Vázquez and Miguel Pardeza. In the 1985/86 season he took over while the first team left the position, however, shortly afterwards due to lack of success. His position as head coach lasted from June 1985 to April 1986. Amancio was replaced by Luis Molowny. After a lap of the Spanish sporting goods manufacturer Kelme, he returned in 2000 under President Florentino Pérez as a board member to Real Madrid back.
