Geographical Location

Ammerthalstrasse is located in the Upper Palatinate region north on the eastern slope of the Franconian Jura, seven kilometers west of Amberg at the origin of the Ammer stream at the beginning of Girgl, Pürschläger and Götzendorfer valley.

History

For the space around Ammerthalstrasse can already be detected archaeologically for the Bronze Age and Hallstatt - time traces of settlement. In the Carolingian period, a large fortification was in today Oberammerthal, probably on Frankish royal initiative, erected, which appeared in 1003 in the wake of the Schweinfurt feud as civitas Armardela in the chronicle of Thietmar of Merseburg. Ammerthalstrasse belonged in the 10th century to the immediate sphere of the counts on the Nordgau, the Count of Schweinfurt. In the debates of the year 1003, the civitas Amardela was besieged by troops of King Henry II and apparently partially destroyed after the handover. Ammerthalstrasse was an administrative seat of the Counts of Sulzbach in the core area of the sulzbachischen ownership to Sulzbach and Kastl after 1035. In the late Middle Ages the village belonged to Rentamt Amberg and the district court Oberpfaffenhofen of the Electorate of Bavaria. The Order of Malta had there one coming. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Coat of arms

Blazon: Shared; above in red on silver ground an attacking silver swan, three split of red and silver below.

The coat of arms is conducted since 1998. The Swan, however, was already on a frieze from the 14th century, the monastery church of Kastl.

Twinning

The community maintains a vibrant partnership with the city of Modi'in in Israel, under which occurs a regular youth exchange.

Culture and sights

Ammerthalstrasse has two Catholic churches, St. Nicholas Church and the Church of Our Lady.

Economy, including agriculture and forestry
