Weigendorf is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Amberg -Sulzbach and a member of the administrative community Neukirchen bei Sulzbach- Rosenberg.

Geography

Weigendorf with its eleven districts is the westernmost municipality in the district of Amberg- Sulzbach and part of the historical Nordgau and overlying regionally in the low mountain range formed in the Tertiary. In a narrower sense, the community is located in the South German cuesta land and belongs to the Middle Franconian Alb. Their territory is one of the dominant dolomite rocks ( Upper Jurassic, Malm also called ), with their typical karst formation of these limestones.

Weigendorf is located in the Upper Palatinate region North - western part of the district of Amberg- Sulzbach, 13 km west of Sulzbach -Rosenberg, and 12 km east of Hersbruck on the main road 14

History

Even the Neanderthals has stayed here, what a wisdom tooth proves that was found in the nearby village not far from your cave of Hunas. Archaeological remains of about 3000 years before the Christian era have been found objects of the people of that time found eg in Ernhüll and Lichtenegg. The Celts had settled the area. The Houbirg and the castle in Lichtenegg were Celtic protection and Fliehburgen.

Weigendorf belonged to in 1777 in Bavaria Wittelsbach -down Duchy of Neuburg -Sulzbach.

The St. Margaret Church in the village located on the Swabian Alb Ernhüll goes back to Roman origins, today's form was given in the 17th or 18th century.

Situated in the valley of the district Högenbachs Högen ( about 300 inhabitants) was in 1043 as Hegina in connection with the donation of places Fürnried, worm noise and Högen by King Henry III. first mentioned to his servant Bardo, changed as Landsassengut with Hofmarksgerechtigkeit multiply its owners.
