Band History

1975-1981

The American rock band Angel was formed in 1975 with the following cast: Punky Meadows (guitar), Mickie Jones (bass ), Frank Diminio (vocals), Gregg Giuffria ( keyboards) and Barry Brandt (drums). Your first musical " baby steps " were made under the name Sweet Mama from Heaven. After a short time they changed their name into Angel, an homage to the eponymous song by Jimi Hendrix. They played local club shows until she discovered Gene Simmons of Kiss and they wanted to take contract with his management. David Joseph was already manager of the band and was just preparing the recordings for the debut album. These attracted the band members to Los Angeles and took the producer Derek Lawrence and Big Jim Sullivan on the songs. Your manager paid the shots from his own pocket. On the recommendation of the recordings Simmons came to Casablanca Records, who took the band under contract and released their self-titled debut album. The album oriented primarily at Kiss, but were geared more progressive.

The band performed exclusively in white, which should represent a contrast to Kiss. In addition, the band members related an androgynous image, which was a hallmark for the Glam Rock.

After a tour, the band brought out another album called Helluva band (1976) and was chosen by the music magazine Circus Best Newcomer. They left Boston Heart and behind. The third album was finally recorded by Eddie Kramer and published in 1977 under the title On Earth as It Is in Heaven. The band evolved with this album from a typical glam- rock band to a hard rock band. After another tour Mickey Jones got out and had to be replaced by Felix Robinson. White Hot from 1978 showed the band as a grown music group that had now fully adopted by Glam. The single Is not Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore ( a cover version of the Rascals ) reached number # 44 of the U.S. Billboard charts.

Sinful 1979 was then a pure pop album, but was unable to match the success of its predecessor. 1980 published two fishing songs on the soundtrack to the film Jeanie's clique, then followed by the live album Live Without a Net. Then the band broke up.

After the dissolution

Frank Diminio 1983 sang the song Seduce Me Tonight for the Flashdance soundtrack, and devoted himself to other projects. The remaining band members tried their luck in other bands, so Felix Robinson White Lion joined. Gregg Giuffria Giuffria formed his own band which later renamed itself under the direction of Gene Simmons, in the House of Lords. 1987 undertook fishing without Giuffria a reunion attempt, but did not come out on the demo stage. All band members then returned to civilian life.

Reunion

1998 Angel is founded new. Frank Dimino and Barry Brandt are still left from the original line -up. Randy Gregg (bass ), Steve Blaze ( keyboards) and Michael T. Ross (keyboards ) completed the cast. In the Beginning, the album after the reunion, also contained guest posts by Punky Meadows and Felix Robinson. The band toured afterwards and played some festivals such as the Bang Your Head and Sweden Rock.
