Ã…ngermanland

Ångermanland is a landscape in the Swedish region of Norrland. It includes parts of the prefectures Vasternorrlands Lan, Jämtland County and Västerbotten County. The name of the landscape comes from the old Swedish Angermann Aland, where anger is bay or fjord.

Geography

The Baltic coast is here strongly structured with deeply cut bays where there are natural harbors. Off the coast lies a multitude of small islands ( archipelago ). The ridges are highly branched and in the valleys there are many elongated lakes with the Tåsjön with about 40 kilometers long and three kilometers wide is the longest lake that lies entirely in Ångermanland. The highest elevation in the landscape ( Bunkfjället ) is 750 meters above sea level relatively low.

The High Coast on the Gulf of Bothnia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On this coast, studies on the Scandinavian land uplift are made. The country stands out here every year by about 1 cm.

In the vicinity of watercourses, especially on both sides of the Ångermanälven, there are nutrient-rich soils that are used for agriculture. On the remaining surfaces growing forest which is often interspersed with marshy places.

Miscellaneous

The dialects in Ångermanland form a rather uniform dialect group which is strongly towards delimited to the south. To the northwest, the Ångermanländische reaches far into the territory of Lapland.

The well-known Surströmming comes from Ångermanland, more precisely from the place Ulvön.

In an elongated area stretching from the Baltic Sea coast about 100 kilometers inland, they found several grave mounds from the Iron Age. There is also the place Näsåker in the community Sollefteå a large collection of rock carvings.
