Animotion

Animotion is a Founded in 1983, American New Wave and synth pop band.

History

The group was founded in 1983 by Astrid Plane and Charles Ottavio, the members of the disbanded retro science-fiction band Red Zone were before. Two other members were the former bandmates, keyboardist Paul Antonelli and drummer Frenchy O'Brien. Charles Ottavio joined a post against the manager the bass instrument, while Astrid Plane still took over the vocals and the band's name designed. Larry Ross of CBS Records was the band's manager. It was he who could commit a second singer for the band with Bill Wadhams.

The band signed a record deal with Polygram 1984 Records. Shortly after the contract was published in early 1985, the album Animotion. The obsession thereon hit single came in the fall of 1984 in the stores and became their first Top 10 hit. Originally written Michael Des Barres and Holly Knight the title.

The guitarist Don Kirkpatrick was born in 1986 added new. With it, the next album, Strange Behavior was recorded, which came on the market in spring 1986. From this LP came as a pre-release single out the Title I Engineer who at least was able to land in Germany in the Top 10. In the U.S., they could not repeat her success at first.

From 1986 to 1987, the band was active mainly with live performances. They played among others with Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, Genesis, Howard Jones, INXS, Phil Collins and Simply Red They were further in several TV shows as a guest, shooting videos or gave interviews. 1987 presented Bill Wadhams and Astrid Plane together with Diana Ross, the American Music Awards.

1988 left Paul Antonelli and drummer Frenchy O'Brien, and the two singers, Bill Wadhams and Astrid Plane the band.

After the band disbanded, took place in early 1989 with a new appointment by the keyboardist Gregory Smith, drummer Jim Blair, as well as the singers Paul Engemann and Cynthia Rhodes a reunion of the band, but no longer able to build on earlier successes.

A surprise hit them yet succeeded with the Single Room to Move From the soundtrack of the movie My Stepmother Is an Alien. The single reached number 9 of the U.S. Billboard charts. In 1990, the band broke up again.

February 8, 2001 Bill Wadhams announced that Animotion would reunite. The band performed since then in various concerts and shows.

Reception

Matthew Rettenmund, author of Totally Awesome 80s, chose the single obsession ranked # 3 of the most important songs of the 1980s. The band's name he called the second best of the decade.
