Aninoasa

Aninoasa (Hungarian Aninósza ) is a city in Hunedoara County in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

Aninoasa is located near the confluence of the two source rivers ( Jiu de Vest and Jiu de Est) of Jiu ( Shield ), in the eastern foothills of the Retezat Mountains. The district capital Deva is about 60 km northwest of Aninoasa away.

History

The region of present-day town has been known since the time of the Dacians and Romans because of its rich forest resources.

The oldest mentioned settlements in the valley of western reeds is Bărbătenii de Jos, which was later renamed Iscroni and which is now incorporated in Aninoasa. 1442 a settlement called Anena described. It was created by historian Nicolae Iorga of Romania considers that there may in the 11th and 13th century by settlers from the Haţeger country. 1791 a wooden church was built in Iscroni.

Today's village Aninoasa was created by the coal mining industry in Schil - valley at the end of the 19th century, when in 1890 several coalfields were opened. In order to transport the coal, built the operating company in 1892 4200 m long transport cable car to Petrosani. 1895 a school was built; 1900 took a railway for transporting coal on its operation. The initial official mention as an administrative unit was made in 1913.

After the end of World War I came Aninoasa, which had until then like all of Transylvania belonged to Austria - Hungary to Romania.

1968 were incorporated in Aninoasa Iscroni; 1989 Aninoasa received the status of a city. Even today (2009) is still operated a coal mine, which is the largest employer in the city. Many of the rest of the inhabitants work in agriculture and tourist facilities.

Population

1850 were registered on the territory of today's 500 inhabitants. 488 were Romanians and 12 Roma. The mining industry led to a rapid increase in population; 1910, 1523, 1930 has 5,318 residents counted. Since 1956 (6.830), the population is on the decline. As of the 2002 census lived in Aninoasa 5,106 people, including 3,120 in the city proper and 1,986 in Iscroni. 4,684 identified themselves as Romanians, 260 as Hungary, 141 as Roma and 8 as Romania German. Unofficial estimates from 1999 are based on approximately 500 Roma. 2011 lived on the territory of the town 4,360, 3,711 identified themselves as Romanians than 298 Roma, 172 as Magyars and five as German.

Traffic

Aninoasa has no rail connection. The place is my finished Iscroni is located on the railway line from Livezeni after Lupeni. Here currently hold (2009) per day in each direction for about five commuter trains. There are regular bus services to Petrosani.
