Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange

Princess Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange (* November 2, 1709 in Lord Hausen, † January 12, 1759 in The Hague) was the second child and eldest daughter of British King and Brunswick Elector George II and his wife Caroline of Ansbach. She was the wife of the first Erbstatthalters of the Netherlands, William IV

Anne was the second winner of the title Princess Royal, which can be given to the eldest daughters of a British monarch, and Prinzregentin of Friesland.

Youth

Anne of Hanover was five years old when her grandfather Elector Georg Ludwig as George I ascended the British throne. Then it was the custom that the legitimate children and grandchildren in the male line of a British monarch the title of Prince or Princess of Great Britain and Ireland contributed and were dubbed with HRH. Princess Royal

On August 30, 1727, her father George II appointed her as his eldest daughter to the Princess Royal. This title was awarded the first Charles I in 1642, his daughter Maria Henrietta. Marriage

When her husband died in 1751, Anne was regent for her three year old son William. First, it was considered good regent with great decisiveness, but was subsequently tyrannical and unpredictable.

Later life

She served until her death in 1759 as regent. Her successor was her mother Marie Louise of Hesse -Kassel. As she too died, was Anne's daughter Caroline regent until William V came of age in 1766.
