Antti Tulenheimo

Antti Agathon Tulenheimo ( born December 4, 1879 in Kangasala, † September 3, 1952 in Helsinki) was a Finnish legal scholar, politician and Prime Minister.

Study and academic career

Tulenheimo graduated in law and was followed from 1911 to 1918 worked as a lecturer at the University of Helsinki. 1919 he was appointed professor of criminal law at the University of Helsinki. From 1926 to 1930 he was rector, and finally from 1944 until his death Chancellor of the University of Helsinki.

Political career

MP and Minister

Tulenheimo began his political career in 1914 with the election of the Members of the Finnish Parliament. After the independence of Finland in 1917, he was also a member of the Finnish Parliament and represented there from 1922 to 1923 and from 1930 to 1932, the interests of the conservative National Coalition Party ( KOK ).

From March to September 1917 he was justice senator in the Senate Cabinet by Oskari Tokoi. After independence he was from May 1918 to August 1919 Governor of the province of Häme and between November 1918 and April 1919 Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Lauri Ingman.

Party Chairman and Prime Minister

1921-1924 Tulenheimo was first chairman of the National Coalition Party. On March 31, 1925, he was the successor of Ingman Prime Minister of a coalition government of the National Coalition Party and the Agrarian League (ML ). After the end of his term on December 31, 1925, he retired from politics.

Local politicians

Tulenheimo belonged from 1915 to 1930 the Helsinki City Council, and was its chairman from 1926 to 1930. Most recently, he was from 1931 to 1944 Mayor of Helsinki.
