The integrated municipality consists of the three member communities Apensen, Beckendorf and Sauensiek.
History
The end of 1997 turned the Municipality Apensen as the first municipality in the district of Stade, the new municipal constitution and elected a full-time integrated municipality mayor.
Policy
Samtgemeinderat
The Samtgemeinderat consists of 23 members. In addition to the council members he is also a member of the full-time integrated municipality mayor. It is composed as follows:

- FWG: 2 seats

Partner communities
Since 1973, the Municipality Apensen has established partnership relations with the French community Ploërmel / Brittany. The relationship between the two communities was formalized by a contract concluded in 1980.

Education
In Apensen is a primary school and a new school in 2001 inaugurated the center (main and junior high school ), which is used today as high school.
