Apostle of Hustle

Apostle of Hustle is an indie rock band from Toronto, Canada. It was founded in 2001 by Andrew Whiteman.

History

Andrew Whiteman was even before the establishment of Apostle of Hustle in several other bands, including Bourbon Tabernacle Choir and Que Vida, active. In 2001, he joined as lead guitarist for the band collective Broken Social Scene. During a two -month stay with the family of his grandmother in Havana, he learned to play the tres, a Cuban guitar style with three strings. This experience influenced him already at work on the album You Forgot It in People by Broken Social Scene.

From the desire to work even harder to deal with Latin American music, he founded together with Julian Brown and Dean Stone Apostle Of Hustle. The band was planned as a quartet and initially joined on in smaller venues. The open fourth position was occupied with various musicians from the Toronto music scene in these live performances, including the conga drummer Daniel Stone and Bryden Baird, which occurs with Leslie Feist. The band played at the beginning of both traditional Brazilian and Cuban music, as well as covers of Tom Waits, PJ Harvey and Marc Ribot.

Folkloric Feel, the debut album by Apostle of Hustle, was released in summer 2004 under the label Arts & Crafts. The album was offset in time taken at four different locations. The reason Whiteman indicates that he gave priority at this time working with Broken Social Scene. 2007 was followed by National Anthem of Nowhere, which was recorded in part in Whiteman's own bedroom. On this album are also Liam O'Neil of The Stills, Evan Cranley and Chris Seligman from Stars and Lisa Lobsinger singing since 2006 with Broken Social Scene, heard.
