Árborg ( Isl Sveitarfélagið Árborg " community Árborg " ) is a municipality in the Icelandic region Suðurland. Important places are Selfoss, Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri. On 1 January 2009 Árborg had 7922 inhabitants. The community has the status of an independent city.

Geography
The municipality is located in the south of Iceland, east of Hellisheiði, south of Lake Þingvallavatn and west of Hvolsvöllur. In the south, bordering the North Atlantic, where the small harbor towns Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri lie.
Through the community's Ölfusá flows, approximately 3 km from Selfoss is the panel volcano Ingólfsfjall.
History
The municipality was established on June 7, 1998 from the merger of the formerly independent rural communities Eyrarbakki ( Eyrarbakkahreppur ) Sandvík ( Sandvíkurhreppur ) and Stokkseyri ( Stokkseyrarhreppur ) with the town of Selfoss ( Selfosskaupstaður ).
Selfoss
Selfoss with 6574 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2009) is an important commercial center for the region.
Stokkseyri
Stokkseyri is a fishing port on the south coast of Iceland, not far from Selfoss and had 455 inhabitants on 1 January 2011. The town is located south of the fishing village Eyrarbakki and west of Selfoss.
History
The area has been inhabited since the time of the Conquest. Previously we lived here from fishing and agriculture, while today the majority of the inhabitants commute to Selfoss and Reykjavík.
Management and Services
The town has a comprehensive school, church, library and a swimming pool. There is a elves and trolls museum and a restaurant serving lobster crab and lamb.
Leisure and Tourism
Many summer homes are located in the site or in its vicinity. The area is to the beach for walking, riding and kayaking excursions.
Eyrarbakki
Eyrarbakki with 587 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2009) is a fishing and harbor village.
Population Development
Árborg had between 1997 and 2008 recorded an unusually large increase in population due to its proximity to the capital Reykjavík and a corresponding economic boom ( 33%).
