Archdale is a city in the state of North Carolina in the United States of America and is located in the County Randolph and Guilford County. Archdale had in the year 2000 9.014 inhabitants.

History

Archdale, formerly Bush Hill, was initially a predominantly inhabited settlement of Quakers and was named in honor of John Archdale Archdale, an early governor, who had also been a Quaker. The official registration took place in July 1969.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers an area 20.3 km ².

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 9,014 people in 3,743 households and 2,623 families. The population density is 444.5 inhabitants per km ². Ethnically, the population itself is composed of 93.2 % White, 2.75 % African American, 0.47 % Native American, 2.04 % Asian, 0.74 % from other races residents, 0.8 % are from two or more races. 1.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 3,743 households out of which 32.1 % have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8 % were married couples living together, 9.7 % had a female householder with no husband, and 29.9% were non-families. 26.2 % of all households are made up and in 8.3 % have someone living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.87.

23.2% of the population were under 18 years old. 8.3 % from 18 to 24 years, 32.4 % between 25 and 44 years 23.5% between 45 and 64, and 12,6,3 % were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.

The median income for a household was $ 41,693, and the median income for a family was $ 50,245. Males had a median income of $ 34,449 versus $ 24,424 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,424. 5.7 % of the population and 5.3% of families are below the poverty line. 7.5 % of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 7.3% are 65 years or older.
