Armindo Araújo

Armindo Araújo (born 1 September 1977) is a Portuguese rally driver. In the 2011 season, he starts with a Mini Countryman S2000 and later with a Mini WRC in the World Rally Championship.

Career

Araújo was active in motorcycling since 1994 and moved in 2000 to the rallying. The first four years, he started in a Citroën Saxo Kit Car, in which he won the championship of the class up to 1600 cc 2002. 2003 and 2004, he was twice Portuguese Rally Champion with this vehicle. In 2005 and 2006 he repeated this success in a Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IIIX.

His first World Championship race he competed in 2001 in his home rally in Portugal. Armindo Araújo began to start from the World Rally Championship in 2007 in the Production World Rally Championship ( PWRC ). In total he played 23 rallies in this class and reached four wins, eleven podiums and 192 points. In 2007 he was the fourteenth of the PWRC, 2008, he was eighth, and in 2009 and 2010, he won the title of PWRC Championship.

At the Rally Mexico 2010, he scored with a tenth place, his first point in the overall standings of the World Rally Championship.

Since the Rally of Portugal in 2011, he participated in eight rounds of the World Rally Championship. He started initially with a mini S2000 and changed over the course of the season in a Mini WRC.
