Armored searobin

Peristedion gracile

The Panzerknurrhähne ( Peristediidae ) live with 45 species in five genera in hot temperate and tropical regions of the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Indo-Pacific in deep water.

Features

Panzerknurrhähne have a scaleless, but with four longitudinal rows of armored plates with strong bones body. The head is large with two fork-like front-facing excesses. The toothless mouth is inferior, with short barbels on the lips and two long, fringed chin barbels. The pectoral fins consist of only two free -rays, with which they can like the related gurnard ( Triglidae ) running on the ground. You have no venom glands.

The animals are seven to 70 inches long.
