History

The area of Arnold Stein was already inhabited in antiquity, which still proclaims the Roman road on the left bank of the Gailitz. This military road ran from Aquileia to Virunum.

This built on a cliff above the Gailitz in the 11th century, the castle, which was under the Patriarchate of Aquileia, and from 1014 to the Bishopric of Bamberg. Otto of Bamberg taught here 1106/ 07 the Benedictine one, which existed until 1783 (see also pin Arnold Stein). The monastery castle is now developed as a walk ruin. In the Park Museum of the City of Klagenfurt is now home to an ancient grave, which Knight Arnold shows with his wife Mathilde.

Below the monastery was built on the Road to Italy ( " oblique passage " ) is a village which was first mentioned in 1376, and already referred to the year 1500 as a market, but did not have self-government with more privileged social class. During the 16th century it fell again to the village.

In the 15th century, the Fugger built a lead smelter ( Fuggerau ). 1797 originated in neighboring Gailitz a smoothness factory which later anti-rust paint and 1814-1975 buckshot produced, of which today still bears witness to a shot tower.
