Arsène Auguste
Arsene Auguste ( born February 3, 1951 in Haiti, † March 30, 1993 in Miami, United States) was a Haitian football defender. Auguste took part with the Haitian National Team at the 1974 World Cup and played most of his career for various U.S. professional teams, the longest time for the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Club
Auguste played in his homeland for the Racing Club Haitien, before he went to the USA after the World Cup 1974. There he played in the American Soccer League for the New Jersey Brewers, where the coach of the newly formed NASL teams Tampa Bay Rowdies, Eddie Firmani, discovered him at the scouting and player than last took them under contract. In the final of the NASL Championship in 1975 scored in San Jose Auguste 's first goal for future 2-0 win over Tampa Bay, Portland. He played from 1975 to 1980 with Tampa Bay, he came in 75 games (not including playoffs ), and twelve games of indoor soccer season 1979/80 for use before he played for two years 1980/1981 with local rivals Fort Lauderdale Strikers. During his time with the Rowdies Auguste was twice, 1977 and 1978, in the second row of the All-Star teams in the NASL, the so-called " NASL Second Team", selected.
1981/82 he played for the Pittsburgh Spirit indoor soccer in the Major Indoor Soccer League, before he again returned to the Tampa Bay Rowdies 1985/86 and played one last season in the American Indoor Soccer Association.
National
Auguste was longtime Haitian national team and at times even captain his country. His club engagements in the U.S., he broke more often to play for the national team. He took a total of three CONCACAF Championships (1973, 1977 and 1981) and the World Cup finals in 1974 in part. In 1973 he was with the team Caribbean, North and Central America Champion, 1977 runner-up.
