Arthur Russell (musician)

Charles Arthur Russell Jr. ( born May 21, 1951 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, † April 4, 1992 in New York) was an American cellist, singer, composer and producer.

Life and work

In his music, he joined the avant-garde, dance music and pop. He has worked with such diverse artists as the beat poets Allen Ginsberg, avant-garde musician Philip Glass, the pop musician David Byrne and DJ Nicky Siano. In the late 1970s, early 1980s, he became acquainted with some underground disco hits, but when he was alive almost exclusively in New York music circles a name. Only in the early 2000s was his work known to a wider public than two record label published anthologies of his work. "World of Echo" was included in the list Wire The Wire 's " 100 Records That Set The World On Fire (While No One Was Listening ) ".

Russel was included in the Kailas Shugendo Arya Maitreya Mandala branch of the order on 14 February 1969 with the initiation name Jigme. His teacher was Neville G. Pemchekov Warwick, a student of Lama Anagarika Govinda, who led the Kailas Shugendō.
