Artur Aleksanyan

Artur Aleksanyan (Armenian Արթուր Ալեքսանյան; born 21 October 1991 in Gyumri ) is an Armenian wrestler. He won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics and was European champion in 2012 and 2013 respectively in Greco-Roman style in the light heavyweight division.

Career

Artur Aleksanyan began as a teenager in 2001 with the rings. He concentrated on the Greco-Roman style and starts for a club from Gyumri. He was first trained by his father Gevorg Aleksanyan and since 2010 by poor Babalarjan. He is a student, but currently lives from the rings.

The international career of Artur Aleksanyan began in 2008, when he finished at the Junior European Championships (Age Group Cadets ) in Daugavpils in the weight class up to 76 kg the 5th Place. The following Junior Championships he was even more successful. He won at the Junior European Championships in 2009 in Tbilisi middleweight behind Ramsin Azizsir, Germany and Murta Taghijew, Azerbaijan, a bronze medal. The same medal he won at the Junior World Championship 2009 in Ankara middleweight behind Babak Hossein Ghorbani Goldasteh, Iran and Alan Chugajew, Russia. In 2010 he was in Samokov junior vice - European champion at middleweight behind Aslan breathing from Turkey and in July 2010 he was in Budapest even junior world champion at middleweight before Lee Se - yeol, South Korea.

In 2011, Artur Aleksanyan continued his success in the seniors continued seamlessly. In April this year he became vice European champion at light heavyweight in Dortmund. He defeated among others Soso Jabidse from Georgia and Elis Guri of Bulgaria. In the final he was defeated by Timofei Dseinitschenko, Belarus. A surprising final defeat he had, however, in June 2011 in Zrenjanin suffered at the Junior European Championships. He lost there against the Hungarian György Rizmajer. Also in the next few competitions he suffered some setbacks. So he took at the Junior World Championship 2011 in Bucharest heavyweight only the 9th place because he was defeated after a victory over Luca Minguzzi, Italy against Metahan bazaar in Turkey and then retired because bazaar failed to reach the finals. Also in the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul, he did not win any medal. He won three fights there though, but then lost to the Turks Cenk Ildem. This was not in the finals, so that this championship was completed on the 7th place for Artur Aleksanyan.

In the road to success he found back in 2012. First, he was in Belgrade at light heavyweight with wins over Sinisa Hogac, Croatia, György Rizmajer, Sergei Rutenko, Ukraine, Oliver Hassler, Germany and Ezerskis Mindaugas, Lithuania, European Champion. Then he qualified with a win in a tournament in Sofia for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In London, he came in the light heavyweight to a victory over Daigoro Timoncini, Italy, then lost to Ghasem Rezaei, Iran and then secured in the consolation round with victories over Cenk Ildem and Yunior Estrada Falcon from Cuba a bronze medal.

In March 2013 Artur Aleksanyan won the European Championship in Tbilisi already his second European title. On the way to this success, he defeated Frederik Schoen, Sweden, Soso Jabidse, Cenk Ildem, Shalva Gadabadse, Azerbaijan and in the final Vladislav Metodiew, Bulgaria, he each with 3-0 points safely ruled in two rounds. At the World Championships this year in Budapest, he defeated Mahdi Aliyari Feyrabadi, Iran, Vladislav Metodiew, Jerulan Iskakow, Kazakhstan and the former world champion Balazs Kiss, Hungary. In the final he was defeated by Rus Nikita Melnikov just on points. Counter Melnikov he had two months earlier already lost the final battle at the Universiade in Kazan.
