Elis Guri

Elis Guri ( born July 6, 1983 in Shkodra, Albania ) is an Albanian- Bulgarian wrestler. It was 2011 for Bulgaria World Champion in free style at light heavyweight.

Career

Elis Guri began in 1997 with the rings, where he focused on the Greco- Roman style. He was a member of the sports clubs to KS Vllaznia Shkoder. After initial successes at the national level, he joined the sports club Partizan Tirana. Guri, a powerfully built, 1.89 meter tall athlete ranking in the junior age at first in the middleweight division, but soon moved to the light heavyweight division, the weight class in which he wrestles since 2003.

In the first years of his international career, which began in 2002 with the participation in the European Junior Championships in Subotica and where he came in 21st place in the middleweight division, his first successes kept within limits. In 2003 he started for the first time at a World Cup of seniors. He lost in Creteil heavyweight both fights, which he denied, and was only on the 37th place.

A first step forward he made in 2007. He came in this year at the World Championships in Baku on the 7th Place and defeated amongst other things after all, the Russian master Vasily Teplouchow. At the 2008 European Championships in Tampere he fought his way to 3rd place its first medal at an international championship. He lost there though against Mirko Englich from Germany on points. However, since this reached the final, Elis Guri was able to wrestle in the consolation round and secure with a win over Heiki Nabi of Estonia a bronze medal. This earned him 3rd place at the same time start authorization for the Albanian team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In Beijing he defeated in his first fight former Olympic gold medalist Karam Ibrahim of Egypt. He then lost his next fights against Mirko Englich and Han Tae -young of South Korea and finally finished in 8th place.

In 2009, Elis Guri decided to go for economic reasons to Bulgaria and in the future to start for this country. He had to spend two years waiting for the naturalization and was able to participate in this time no international championships. In Bulgaria, he became a member of the Litex Lovech sports clubs. His coach was Bratan Zenow. At the same time he also wrestled in the German Bundesliga for the KSV Köllerbach.

In 2011 he was first Bulgarian champion before Wladyslaw Metodiew and Hussein Husseinov and took, starting for Bulgaria, at the European Championships in Dortmund in part. He defeated there in the light heavyweight Daigoro Timoncini from Italy, Rustam Totrow, Russia and Cenk Ildem from Turkey. In the semifinals, he lost Artur Aleksanyan from Armenia and in the fight for a bronze medal defeating Martin Nielsen from Norway. Then the world championships this year in Istanbul were to highlight in the career of Elis Guri. He defeated there Sinisa Hogac from Croatia, Robert Awanesjan from Israel, Rustam Totrow, Mohamad Abd El Fatah of Egypt, and in the final battle the experienced Jimmy Lidberg Sweden and became the first world champion.

But with the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he could not realize his dream of a medal win. He won in London initially Alin Alexuc - Ciurariu from Romania and Soso Jabidse from Georgia, but lost in his third fight against Timofei Dseinitschenko from Belarus. Since this does not reach the final, he was eliminated and finished only 7th place.
