The Attiki Odos / Αττική Οδóς (Greek for " Attic street " ), 6/Αυτοκινητόδρομος 6 ( for " Highway 6 " in Greek ) also called Aftokinitodromos, is a Greek motorway in the region of Attica in Athens metropolitan area. It connects the new Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos - east of Athens with Elefsina in the west and thereby extends north of Athens city center. The Attiki Odos is therefore an east-west direction arc-segment shaped running highway to Athens in terms of a " northern bypass of Athens ". Their total length after removal status in September 2007 is 65 km.

In addition to the A6 as the main component of the Attiki Odos from Elefsina to cross the Attiki Odos Athens airport also includes cross-stays and smaller compounds ( A62, A64, A65 ), which are also designed as highways.

Construction

In 1997 started the construction of which was completed in 2003. An important reason to the construction were next to the connection of the new airport certainly since the Attiki Odos also contributes to the Olympic Games, which were held in Athens in 2004 to an excellent infrastructure and complies with the highest international standards.

Before the construction of Attiki Odos always at least partially crossing the center of Athens was when driving from Corinth or the Peloponnese Northern Greece by de facto required.

Toll charges

Between the toll Roupaki in the west and the toll gate in the east Koropi the use of the Attiki Odos is a toll road. Prices for a one way trip over the entire length of the route vary be between € 1.30 and € 10.80 for motorcycles for trucks with four or more axles. The construction of the metro line 4 of the Athens Metro will be funded by toll revenue of the Attiki Odos.

Networking street

The Attiki Odos as a northern bypass of Athens crosses several roads and traffic routes:

  • A1 " PATHE " (E 75) Patras - Corinth -Athens- Lamia -Larisa - Katerini -Thessaloniki - Evzoni ( Macedonian border)
  • A65 Ano Liossa ( Olympic site ) with Aspropyrgos or Egaleo ( Ostumgehung Elefsina or ring Egaleo )

Networking air traffic

There is a direct connection to the Athens International Airport " Eleftherios Venizelos " in the east of the Attica peninsula near the town of Spata (via A62 ).

Network for public transport

The exit Doukissis Plakentias is located next to the eponymous interchange station of rail transport ( Proastiakos and Athens Metro Line 3 Airport Monastiraki ).

Effect

The traffic flow between different regions of Attica has been improved, shortening the travel time and the traffic on central streets is to be reduced. This estimated daily savings of up to two million liters of fuel.
