The Aftokinitodromos 64/Αυτοκινητόδρομος 64 (Greek for, highway 64 '), also περιφεριακή Υμήττου/Hymettos- or Ymittos ring called, is a Greek Motorway, and a branch line from the Attiki Odos (highway 6; European Route 94 ) to the east of Athens and leads from the west side of the mountain Ymittos (or Hymettus ) to the north side to the east towards Marathon and Rafina.

History

The construction of the existing section of the motorway junction Katechaki to the junction Agios Gerasimos began on 19 September 1997., The traffic handover of the section on August 4, 2000. Effect from 19 March 2001, the highway was a toll road. On 31 January 2003, the automatic toll system has been introduced. Since the construction took place together with the construction of the Attiki Odos, the cost of this motorway section were calculated into the entire project. The cost of the entire project amounted to 1.3 billion euros. This sum was 65% owned by the Greek State and 35% by the operator Attiki Odos SA worn.

Planning

Since 2005, there are plans, the entire project consisting of three Attiki Odos motorway (A6, A62, A64 ) to 76 km then expand to 141 km. The A64 is to be extended at both ends. The planning phase for these two projects was launched in mid 2008.

To the east of the A64 is to be extended to Rafina and Marathon to the junction Pikermi. This rail line would run to the north of the Athens airport, would be about six kilometers long.

At the same time a further construction at the western end being planned. This section would lead along the Hymettus south towards Vouliagmeni, Glyfada. The expansion is technically difficult, since only would be a building in the mountainside without extensive demolition of dense residential development possible. On the other hand, contains a different variant of the construction of seven tunnels with a total length of 9.28 kilometers.
