Aubencheul-aux-Bois
Aubencheul -aux -Bois is a commune with 304 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aisne in the Picardie region; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint- Quentin and the District of Le Catelet.
Geography
The municipality is situated approximately halfway between Saint- Quentin and Cambrai on the border with Nord.
History
Aubencheul -aux -Bois in the center of the forest of Arrouaise was the seat of a small, founded in the 11th century abbey. The town was sacked in 1584 by Alessandro Farnese, 1636 by the Spanish. A 1827 fire destroyed 63 houses. In World War Aubencheul was almost completely destroyed.
