Aurore (grape)

Aurore is a white grape variety. The white variety is a new breed between varieties Seibel Seibel 788 and 29 The crossing was made by the French breeder Albert Seibel. The variety Seibel 788 is a hybrid of Sicily x Clairette Dorée Ganzin; Seibel 29 is a cross between Jaeger 70 x Vitis vinifera. Through the influence of the parents, the hybrid vine Aurore therefore has the genes of the wild vine Vitis vinifera, Vitis rupestris and Vitis aestivalis. Due to the slightly reddish color of the berries you named the variety after Aurora, the goddess of the dawn. Aurore has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic drawback is avoided, no return delivered to male plants need to grow.

Prior to 1958 it was grown on nearly 288 acres in France in a region between Alsace and Vendée. Here, some plantations were even found in the 19th arrondissement of the French capital. Today they can be found in Canada (about 220 ha) and at the cold North American East Coast ( 700 ha), for example, in the U.S. state of New York ( Finger Lake ).

The early maturing and high yielding variety has a good resistance to the vine diseases powdery mildew and downy mildew. It provides wines with a moderate Fox clay and is therefore only used for simple white wines. Due to the acidity ( acid → (wine) ) it finds its way into sparkling wines.
