Avia BH-25

The Avia BH -25 was a Czechoslovakian airliner from the second half of the 1920s.

History

The two employed by Avia aircraft designers Pavel Beneš and Miroslav Hajn began with the construction works through a bidding process for a transport aircraft. The design called for a single-engine biplane of mixed fiber. Contrary to their previous constructions of the box-shaped hull of the model was given a full planking plywood, as well as the front wings. The hind wings and all control surfaces were covered with fabric. As typical Beneš / Hajn design of the late 1920s of the wing had a slightly larger wingspan compared to the Superiors.

The passenger cabin could accommodate up to six people and was reached by a narrow entrance door on the left. The two pilots sat separately in an open cockpit. The chassis was rigid and connected to an axle. At the rear, there was a tail skid.

The only built prototype was built as driving a Škoda license in line engine Lorraine -Dietrich with 450 hp. The first flight took place in July 1926. Flight testing drew some changes to the structure by itself. So the rudder an additional rigid tail fin before became arranged instead of the usual one-piece at Avia, movable control surface. The wing tanks were moved to the center piece of the undersides of the upper wing. When driving an air cooled, built under license at Walter Bristol Jupiter IV radial engine was installed.

The thus modified machine went in small series. Six aircraft including the prototype, which was approved with the identification L- BABA were built, delivered to the ČLS and used on international routes Prague - Berlin and Prague Rotterdam. Six more were purchased from Romania and flew there at the airline SNNA.

Altogether they produced twelve Avia BH- 25th
