AxarquÃa
La Axarquia is one of the six Comarcas in the Spanish province of Málaga. It borders the province of Granada. It was, like all Comarcas in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, furnished with effect from 28 March 2003. However, the comarca has only the function of planning regions for tourism and the development of sports facilities.
Located in the east of the province Comarca comprises 31 municipalities with 211 447 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013), or about one-eighth of the province 's population. The capital of the administrative unit Vélez -Málaga.

Parts of nature parks " Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama " and " Acantilados Maro - Cerro Gordo " lie in the Axarquia.
