The Babenhausen (Hessen ) Bahnhof ( railway authorities: Babenhausen ( Hess) ) is a crossing station at the intersection of the Rhine -Main- path and the Odenwald Railway in Babenhausen.

History

The station was built for the Rhine -Main- track and put into operation on 25 December 1858. 1868 came the Odenwaldbahn, initially to large - Umstadt added. 1876, the three-storey station building was built, which still stands today. It is erected in pale sandstone Typenbau. There, a small restaurant was opened in 1904. The station building is a cultural monument under the Hessian Monument Protection Act.

In the twenties of the 20th century began major renovations because of the increasing traffic at the station. The tracks were placed 5 m higher, the level crossings at the Aschaffenburg and at the Darmstadt road closed. Right next to the station building an underpass for today's B 26 was built. The work could be 1928/1929 completed. 1944, the railway facilities were damaged by air raids several times.

1960, the electrical equipment was introduced on the Rhine -Main Railway, opened in 1968, the central interlocking south of the tracks. 2003, the ticket office was closed shortly afterwards, restaurant and kiosk. The station building was sold in 2004 and changed ownership several times in the meantime. 2008, the station is 150 years. 2009, the former ticket office was converted into a stand, now here are magazines, drinks and snacks available.

Infrastructure

The tracks of the trails start at the station in regular service, the tracks of the Rhine -Main- Odenwald railway lie north of the track. On the single track Odenwaldbahn the station is used to plan for trains passing. The platforms are located in an island between the tracks, access to the tracks is only possible through the underpass. At the eastern station head of the track Odenwaldbahn to Hanau is guided in a vertically freely over the Rhine -Main -Bahn. In Dieburg there are additional passing loops, which are used for the overhaul of freight trains.

In the north-eastern part of the station is the formerly extensive freight station. He formerly possessed considerable importance for the stationed units of the U.S. Army, but is now used only to a limited extent, eg for timber loading. The track, which led from Hanau in the freight station, was shut down in 2007.

Expansion plans

2013, work began on a barrier-free reconstruction of the station.
