Bad As Me is the 20th studio album by Tom Waits, released in 2011 on ANTI- Records. His first album of new material since 2004 was reacted favorably by critics. On the recordings Les Claypool, Flea and Marc Ribot, among others were Keith Richards, involved.

Background

The published in October 2011 Bad As Me was the first album of new material by the artist since 2004, when Real Gone was published. In the meantime he had published just a collection of older songs and oddities ( Orphans, 2006) and a live album ( Glitter and Doom, 2009). Jörn Schlüter commented in the German Rolling Stone: "We wondered if Waits was probably turned into the final round. " However, " [ a] n the face of the new album [Bad As Me ], the question no longer arises. " Waits announced Bad As Me advance in an ironic "Private Listening Party " on YouTube, in which he criticized the common practice of piracy.

The album was the first in Waits ' discography, in which his wife Kathleen Brennan was not only co-author, but also a co-producer. His oldest son, Casey, took part in the recordings as a drummer. The songs were restricted at the request of Brennan on each under 4 minutes. Stylistically, the songs are very different - from the " brutal military persiflage " Hell Broke Luce to the ballads Kiss Me or Back in the Crowd. On the recordings several well-known " regulars" from Waits were involved again. For example, Marc Ribot, Keith Richards, Flea, Les Claypool and Charlie Musselwhite.

Deluxe Edition

The double - CD deluxe edition of the album was issued in the form of a small book and on the second CD contains three additional songs: She Stole the Blush, Tell Me and After You Die.

Criticism

In the German edition of Rolling Stone Arne Will Ander wrote about the album:
