Baltinglass

Baltinglass ( Irish: Bealach Conglais ) is a town in County Wicklow on the east of the Republic of Ireland.

Bealach Conglais, the Irish name of Baltinglass, means the way of Conglas, a member of the Fianna. Is another Irish name for the place Mainistir to Bhealaigh, refers to its monastic past, especially in the Baltinglass Abbey from the 12th century, a former Cistercian monastery represented.

Baltinglass is located on the River Slaney in the south west of Wicklow, close to its border with the county Kildare and Carlow, on the western foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. Its population was determined at 2002 Census 1,260 people, has now grown significantly, however, as in all places in the catchment area of Dublin.

Baltinglass is located on the N81 from Dublin via Tallaght and Blessington by Tullow and on to the N80 to Carlow Town and Enniscorthy. By bus Baltinglass with Carlow and three to four times daily is associated with Dublin. On the rail transport in Ireland Baltinglass is no longer connected.
