Itaú Unibanco ( Unibanco Itaú Holding SA ) is a financial company based in São Paulo, Brazil. It is listed on the financial index IBOVESPA. The company was founded in 2008 from the merger of Banco Itaú and Unibanco. It is the largest bank in the southern hemisphere, has about 57.5 million customers and is available nationally primarily with Banco do Brasil and Banco Bradesco in competition. Pedro Moreira Salles is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Itaú Unibanco.

Company History

Banco Itaú was founded in 1945 under the corporate name Central de Crédito. The company later moved to Banco Federal de Crédito. 1964 the bank merged with the Banco Federal de Crédito for Banco Itaú. In 1966, the company Banco Sul Americano 1969, the Banco da América acquired.

In the 70s, Banco Itaú merged with Banco Aliança in Rio de Janeiro (1973 ), with Banco Português do Brasil ( 1974) and the Banco União Comercial (1974).

Over the past 15 years, Banco Itaú acquired several other financial companies:

2002 acquired Banco Itaú, Banco Fiat, together with the financial operations of Fiat car financing. In April 2006, Banco Itaú acquired the Brazilian financial areas of the Bank of Boston Bank of America, the resold them through the acquisition of FleetBoston at Banco Itaú. Likewise, Banco Itaú acquired the exclusive rights to acquire the financial areas of BankBoston in Chile and Uruguay. In return, the Bank of America received a share of Banco Itaú of 6 percent.
