Bara, Trebišov District

Bara (Hungarian Bari) is a small village with about 350 inhabitants in the south-eastern Slovakia near the border town of Slovenské Nové Mesto to Hungary.

The municipality was created in 1960 by the merger of the two places Mala Bara (Hungarian Kisbári ) and Velka Bara (Hungarian Nagybári ) and lies on the southern slopes of the mountains Sempliner in the famous Tokaj wine region.

The places were in 1296 for the first time in a document as Bary; mentioned ( a Slovak plural form etymology of the word tribe is controversial, probably comes from the word for " marsh "). The today mainly Hungarian-speaking population mainly deal with agriculture and viticulture.

Until 1918, the municipality in the county Semplin the Kingdom of Hungary belonged and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award they came from 1938 to 1945 for a short time again to Hungary.
