Somotor

Somotor (Hungarian Szomotor ) is a city and a municipality in eastern Slovakia, with 1561 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and is located in Okres Trebišov, kraj a district of Košice.

Geography

The municipality is located in the southern part of the East Slovak Lowland on the left-bank side of the Bodrog at an altitude of 98 m nm It is removed from the Hungarian border just five miles as the crow flies and is 1ž kilometers west of Kráľovský Chlmec as well as 80 kilometers southeast of Kosice ( road distance ).

The municipality also includes districts VEC (1943 amalgamated, Hungarian Bodrogvécs ) and Nová Vieska pri Bodrogu (1964 amalgamated, Hungarian Kisújlak ).

History

Somotor was first mentioned in writing in 1214.
