The Barton Highway is a highway in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales and the north of the Australian Capital Territory. It connects the Hume Highway north-east of Yass with the Federal Highway and Northbourne Avenue ( the Kings Highway and the Monaro Highway leads ) in the Australian capital Canberra.
History
The highway is by Edmund Barton, the first Prime Minister of Australia, named.
Originally, the road through the middle of Yass, today the city is bypassed. The old section is called Yass Valley Way. As the number of commuters between Yass and Canberra has increased greatly in recent years, to the Barton Highway be upgraded to a motorway-type connection.
Course
Around 10 km north-east of Yass branches of the Barton Highway from the Hume Highway ( N31 ), the main connecting road from Sydney to Melbourne, to the south. 5 km to the south it crosses the Yass Valley Way. Shortly before the settlement Hall he crossed the border in the Australian Capital Territory. In the north of Canberra, the road meets the Federal Highway ( N23 ) and ends there. To the south the Northbourne Avenue (R23 ) continues to the city center Carberras.
